How to Waterproof your OLPRO Tents and Awnings

We all know that the weather can be incredibly unpredictable. It can be sunny one minute, and the next it can be torrential rain. That is why we want to help you learn how to apply Waterproofing to your Tents and Awnings, to save your tent from the unpredictable weather.

Whilst all of our OLPRO products are already waterproofed, we wanted to give you some guidance for a little peace of mind, especially for those of you who have had your kit for a while and are thinking of topping it up with some Waterproofing solution. The OLProofer is the perfect solution to your waterproofing needs. OLProofer is a specially designed fabric-reproofing formula to restore waterproofing qualities to the fabric.

Now once you’ve got your waterproofing solution, it’s important to know the best time to actually waterproof your tent or awning.

Pick a Day - It’s incredibly important to pick a nice warm day to waterproof your tent or awning. This is because we don’t want to get the tent wet when the Waterproofing solution is drying.

Clean your tent or awning - Whilst it might seem pretty easy to just put your waterproofing solution onto your tent or awning, you need to ensure that your tent or awning is clean from any bits of dirt or mud. If your tent seems to have some flaking on it, this could be the old layer of waterproofing solution, so make sure to gently clean your tent or awning to ensure you don’t rip the fabric.

Seal the Seams – The seams on your tent or awning are really important, as this is where there is most likely to be a leak, so it’s important to make sure they are sealed. Firstly, you need to seal the seams on the inner of your tent or awning, so that when you go to seal the outside seams there is no leakage. Once you have done this, clean the outer seams carefully to ensure there is no dirt or mud. After doing this, you need to apply the OLProofer onto the seams as per instructed on the product and let it dry.

Waterproofing the rest of your tent – You need to evenly distribute the waterproofing solution as per instructed on the product and then leave to dry for 24 hours. If you see that there is any left-over residue, wipe it off gently with a soft damp cloth.

When purchasing a new tent or awning from OLPRO, it isn’t necessary to waterproof your tent as they are waterproofed already. However, if you have noticed your old kit is beginning to flake or notice a small leak, then it’s time to reproof your kit!
